Dear WMS Families,
In the upcoming weeks, we will be focusing especially on the “T” of BERT; trust means that students do the right thing even when no one is watching. The next five weeks will be filled with classroom based learning and activities that are both educational and celebratory in nature. We count on our students to do their part by following schoolwide expectations, listening to their teachers and being kind to their classmates, across all of these opportunities. We thank you, in advance, for reinforcing this important message at home with your students.
We are grateful to WMS’ House Leaders who have collaboratively created educational and celebratory end-of-year activities for our students. We thank Ms. Hagan, Ms. Prasad, Ms. Chisholm, Mr. Merry, Mr. Reddington, Mr. Farley, Ms. Posner, Mr. Kotin, and Ms. Peirce for their leadership, creativity, and organization in making these opportunities available to our students.
We also thank Ms. Poulo, Mr. Farley, Mr. Kotin, Ms. Brewington, Mr. Lehr, Ms. Drahusz, Mr. Gorsky, Ms. Hagan, and Mr. Murphy and all staff members who have supported our students’ development as mathematicians. When tackling the mathematics MCAS last week, our students showcased a deep command of content as they navigated everything from ratios and proportions to geometry and statistical data analysis. During the two days of testing, our students epitomized the first standard of mathematical practice “making sense of problems and persevering in solving them”.
As always, our doors are open. Whether you have questions, concerns, or simply want to share in the excitement of the school year, we encourage you to reach out.
Deborah, Courtney, and Rebecca

Earlier this winter, several of our 6th- and 7th-graders put their problem-solving skills to the test in the New England Mathematics League (NEML) contest.
We are incredibly proud to share that our students didn't just participate; they excelled on a regional and league-wide stage.
🏅 6th Grade Highlights
Competing against 38 different schools, our 6th-grade team demonstrated impressive teamwork and logic.
Regional Ranking: 3rd Place
Overall League Ranking: 8th Place
Individual Standouts: A special shout-out to Sihyun Kim and Aiden Teng, who ranked among the top 6th-grade students in the entire league!
🏆 7th Grade Highlights
Our 7th-grade team climbed even higher in the standings, competing against a field of 34 participating schools.
Regional Ranking: 2nd Place
Overall League Ranking: 4th Place
Individual Standouts: Leo C. earned a spectacular tie for 1st Place among all students in the league! Owen W. also joined the league's top scorers with an outstanding performance.

WYFS is excited to bring our community together through a seasonal clothing swap initiative. We are currently accepting gently used clothing for all ages and sizes. Our goal is to hold two seasonal swaps, Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer, to help ensure access to essential, weather-appropriate attire for everyone. Starting the week of May 18th, a donation bin will be available at Wayland Middle School. Thank you for helping us make this effort a success!
Together, we can support one another—one outfit at a time!

The Community Potluck scheduled for May 21, 2026 is postponed until the 2026-2027 school year as a result of a much lower level of response than expected.
Upon reflection, the School Council members agreed that the event would likely be more appealing if scheduled earlier in the year as May is such a busy time for all of our families. We will take all of the great planning done by the committee and bring it forward to next year.

An email from Wayland Public Schools Transportation Office was sent to parents/caregivers on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 for students in grades K-11 for Wayland bus routes (please check your Spam).
Please complete the registration form for each student, indicating whether that student will need school bus transportation for the 2026-2027 year. School Bus Registration closes on June 30, 2026.
Note: METCO and Kindergarten transportation registration will be communicated on a later date.

Please consider donating gently used clothing for ages newborn to twelve. There is a box in the lobby at WMS for all donations.
Thank you in advance for considering and donating!

Thank you to all that have donated books for the book swap! Although the drive has ended, any books that would like another home at the middle school, continued donations are always welcome.
