Dear WMS Families,
As we enter the month of June, WMS teachers continue to offer our students exciting and novel learning experiences. Our Bright Sides this week includes one of these experiences.
From mid-May through the end of the school year, our 8th-grade science students are participating in an immersive environmental economics simulation called Power Up. Set in the fictional town of Reglietta, this deck-building game challenges students to work in collaborative "household" groups to manage budgets, weigh short- and long-term financial gains, and navigate the complexities of community decision-making. Using classroom currency, "Gabarees", students must strategically invest in various energy sources, modern technologies, and civic actions. For the first simulation, the houses met with an energy executive who presented a high-stakes proposal that would impact the entire population. Taking on the roles of various town stakeholders, students engaged in a structured debate using the Claim, Evidence, Reasoning (CER) framework to evaluate the proposal. This engaging simulation builds academic skills, critical thinking, and has real-world applications.
Last week, we shared with you the WMS Caregiver Survey 2025-2026. As we work together to support your child’s growth and learning, your voice is one of our most valuable resources. Please take a few moments to share your thoughts through this survey. The survey will be open through Friday, June 5th.
As we move toward the end of the year, we will continue to share the rich learning experiences that our students are having at WMS. As always, our doors are open. Whether you have questions, concerns, or simply want to share in the excitement of the school year, we encourage you to reach out.

We want all of our middle school students to comfortably and responsibly use the restrooms at the middle school.
In the last week at WMS, we have seen an increase in students not following expectations in the restrooms.
We expect all students to:
- Use the restroom appropriately (ie: throwing trash in the barrel, using resources provided appropriately, clean up after themselves)
- Have a pass from class to use the restroom.
- Use the restroom only when needed and not as a time to meet up with friends.
- Use the restroom and return quickly to class (typically 3-5 minutes) so that they don’t miss out on important instructional time.
- Report to an adult if they see inappropriate behavior in the restroom.
- Remember that their actions have an impact on other students’ sense of comfort and safety in the restrooms.
- Remember that their actions, if not meeting expectations, have a negative impact on the WMS custodial staff that works so hard to maintain our building.
We appreciate the time you will take to review these expectations with your child. Thank you for your partnership.

WYFS is excited to bring our community together through a seasonal clothing swap initiative. We are currently accepting gently used clothing for all ages and sizes. Our goal is to hold two seasonal swaps, Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer, to help ensure access to essential, weather-appropriate attire for everyone. Starting the week of May 18th, a donation bin will be available at Wayland Middle School. Thank you for helping us make this effort a success!
Together, we can support one another—one outfit at a time!

An email from Wayland Public Schools Transportation Office was sent to parents/caregivers on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 for students in grades K-11 for Wayland bus routes (please check your Spam).
Please complete the registration form for each student, indicating whether that student will need school bus transportation for the 2026-2027 year. School Bus Registration closes on June 30, 2026.
Note: METCO and Kindergarten transportation registration will be communicated on a later date.

Please consider donating gently used clothing for ages newborn to twelve. There is a box in the lobby at WMS for all donations.
Thank you in advance for considering and donating!

Thank you to all that have donated books for the book swap! Although the drive has ended, any books that would like another home at the middle school, continued donations are always welcome.
