Dear WMS Families,
It is hard to believe that we are in the last six days of the 2025-2026 school year. On behalf of the administrative team, Ms. Rowley, Assistant Principal and Ms. Speicher, Administrator for Student Services, and myself, I want to thank you for your steadfast support, your innovative ideas, and the countless conversations you have had with us about navigating the middle school experience with your students.
Now, onto the final Bright Sides for this school year!
Congratulations and thank you to Jeff Benson, Whitney Tandon, Bernadette Vanaria, for all of their work in creating an amazing day for our WMS musicians during the Great East Music Festival! In Susan Memoli’s words, “Congratulations on your achievements this year and accomplishments today! You have all proven that hard work and dedication are the keys to progress. Your professionalism and performance were impressive and a point of great pride today. As your judges noted, there is incredible music being made at WMS. In addition to your outstanding performances, your responsiveness to the adjudicator/clinicians and your concert etiquette when listening to one another were noteworthy. I was also duly impressed with the appropriate participation at Canobie Lake. You represented Wayland very well.”
We are already looking forward to the 2026-2027 school year which will include our districtwide work around a Portrait of a Learner. A Portrait of a Learner is a vision of the skills, knowledge and mindsets that a community wants students to develop to succeed in life beyond school. It serves as a guide for educational decisions and practices, fostering a shared understanding of desired learning outcomes. This exciting work is ongoing, and we look forward to sharing more information with in the upcoming year!
As always, our doors are open. Whether you have questions, concerns, or simply want to share in the excitement of this school year or the year to come, I encourage you to reach out.
Deborah, Courtney, and Rebecca

If there are replacement or repair fees associated with either the chromebook or Yondr pouch, families will be contacted.

Please take a few moments at home this week to help your student(s) gather any WMS library or classroom library books that need to be returned to school. We count on books being returned to maintain the breadth and depth of our reading resources.
Please ask your students to visit the Lost and Found at WMS to ensure that they are not leaving any of their belongings behind. There are many sweatshirts, water bottles, and other items in the Lost and Found.

The time is upon us and many school related activities are happening in quick succession. In hopes of keeping everyone organized and informed, the PTO has created an outline of the upcoming 8th grade events. Please find below the flier that details the dates, time and pertinent information of each event.

As we begin planning for next school year, please take a moment to review these important registration reminders:
School Bus Registration
Students who will ride the school bus during the 2026–2027 school year must be registered by June 30, 2026. Note: METCO families will receive a bus registration email later this summer.
Bus routes will be developed over the summer, and bus passes will be mailed to registered students before the start of school. Route information will be available on the Wayland Transportation website by mid-August.
Returning Student Registration
All families will receive a Returning Student Registration email this summer with instructions for reviewing and updating student, caregiver, and emergency contact information in our system. This process replaces the paper forms previously sent home. Please complete this review to ensure we have accurate information for the upcoming school year.
Withdrawing Students
If your student will not be attending Wayland Public Schools next year, please complete the School Withdrawal Form so your child's current school may update their enrollment.
Thank you for helping us prepare for a successful 2026 - 2027 school year!

It is with great honor and pride to shout out Peter Curran, our very own Wayland Middle School Art teacher, making it into the big time with his talent, creativity and hardwork.
We offer below, an excerpt from the published book What Artists Do _ TAB Pedagogy and Practice for K-12 Choice-Based Art Classes, the work and energy Mr. Curran put into his students and classroom to keep Art an integral part of public school education.

The 6th and 7th Grade Community Service Clubs are partnering with 8th grader Selin Yardibi and Project 351 to do a collection for CradlestoCrayons.
Please consider donating gently used clothing for ages newborn to twelve. There is a box in the lobby at WMS for all donations.
Thank you in advance for considering and donating!

Thank you to all that have donated books for the book swap! Although the drive has ended, any books that would like another home at the middle school, continued donations are always welcome.
