Welcome Back Newsletter to Caregivers

Good afternoon Wayland Middle School Community,

I hope your summer has been filled with bright sunshine, restful days, and precious time with loved ones. Having treasured my time as your Assistant Principal over the past two years, I am deeply honored to step into my new role as your Principal. Supporting our students is a true team effort, and my door is always open as we work in partnership to help your child thrive.

Our staff is already hard at work preparing a warm, vibrant school environment to welcome everyone back. A massive shout-out goes to our heroic custodial crew, who have worked absolute magic behind the scenes to prepare our school! Thanks to their tireless hustle, our floors are mirror-shiny, everything is squeaky clean, and the building is gleaming for day one.

Please review the key information below, soak up every remaining moment of your break, and know that we can't wait to welcome you back!

In partnership,
Courtney Rowley
Interim Principal

We look forward to welcoming our 6th grade students on Friday, August 28th. The doors will open at 8:25 AM. Students will begin their day in homeroom at 8:40 AM. Students will have the opportunity to visit all of their classes and meet their teachers. The day will end at 12:00pm.

We cannot wait to meet our new 6th grade class at orientation this Friday and help you kick off an incredible middle school experience. There will be buses provided for orientation. Per the transportation department, if your student takes the bus as their regular means to get to school, they will need to be at their bus stop 10-15 minutes PRIOR to the normal time they would be at the bus stop. This information will be sent to families from the transportation department. Any questions regarding bus transportation will need to go to the transporation department.

7th & 8th Grade New Student Orientation

If you are a new 7th or 8th grade student, you are invited to attend a New Student Orientation on Friday, August 28th at 12:30pm at the school. You will meet your counselor, the House leaders and your teachers as well as having the opportunity to tour the school.

Student Schedules

At this time, student schedules are finalized and available in Powerschool. Additionally, ALL student schedules will be printed and handed out during Homeroom (HR) on the first day of school, August 31st. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your schedule, please email our Assistant Principal Rachel Scott at rachel_scott@waylandps.org.

Returning Student Form on PowerSchool

Please sign in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and select Returning Student Registration to complete your forms as soon as possible.

These forms are required for all students attending Wayland Public Schools. These forms provide schools with current contact, emergency, and health information for the start of the year.

Additionally, the forms confirm you have read and agreed to the terms of the Student Handbook, Technology Responsible Use Guidelines and Student Data Privacy.

New to Wayland? Families new to the district should have received an email on 8/19 with instructions for accessing their PowerSchool Parent Portal accounts.

Questions? Visit our FAQs or submit a Support Form for assistance.

School Supplies

Our PTO has put together a back-to-school supply list that can be purchased through School ToolBox, which offers a customizable option. Please note the due date for arrival of school supplies purchased through School Toolbox for arrival on or before the start of school has passed. Paying for expedited delivery is the only way to ensure supplies will arrive close to the start of school

Alternatively, you can use the attached PDF to the school supply list (by grade) to purchase them on your own.

Chromebooks will be issued during the first week of school after you have signed off on the acceptable use and insurance policy. **This is part of the Returning Student / New Student Form on Powerschool **

Attendance at WMS

Arriving at school by 8:35 AM so you are on time is a priority at WMS. If you arrive late, you must check-in at the office for a late pass before proceeding to class. If you are absent or would like to send notification of an early dismissal, please email ms_attendance@waylandps.org.  In lieu of an email, your caregiver may provide a signed note to give to the front office staff before school and the office will issue you a dismissal pass. The notification to the office must include the reason for the absence or early dismissal. If you are hurt or sick and it is necessary for you to go home, you must visit the nurse, who will call your caregiver and arrange for you to be picked up.

Bus Routes

The official bus routes will begin next week. The school bus routes will be posted soon on the main website for the Wayland Public Schools. Bus passes will be sent to families from the business office. We also want to remind you that transportation is provided to bring children from home to school and from school back to their homes not to afterschool activities. We have to adhere to this district policy so that every child has a seat on the bus. Musical instruments, which can fit safely in a child’s lap, may be transported by bus. Large instruments should be dropped off at school by an adult to ensure a safe ride for all students.

Note: there will be a separate schedule for orientation, which will be shared with 6th grade families.

ParentSquare Communications

The school will send the WMS newsletter every other week on Tuesdays starting on 9/1/26 with important information and highlights. Additionally, families may receive grade-specific communications and communications from teachers regarding individual classes through ParentSquare. Additionally, the Wayland Schools and Community News will be sent on the opposite week. If you have any issues logging in, please submit the Google Form: PowerSchool and Parent Square Support Request.
